Shekinah Fashaw is a third-year doctoral student in health services research at Brown University with research interests in racial- ethnic- disparities, and long-term care for older adults. Shekinah is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, where she received her Bachelors in 2015, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was conferred a Master’s in Health Policy and Management in 2017. Shekinah is an active member of her university community. She is proud to serve as the president of the Samuel M. Nabrit Black Graduate Student Association, the Chair of Student Life for the Graduate Student Council, and a Co-Coordinator for the Graduate Students of Color Orientation. Shekinah is also highly involved with AcademyHealth, a national organization for health service and health policy researchers. She was recently selected to serve on the AcademyHealth Board of Directors as the student member. Shekinah is a passionate scholar who is always hoping to share knowledge beyond the ivory tower.

Shekinah is a talented speaker. She is the winner of a competitive 3-MinuteThesis competition, has served as a keynote speaker and panelist at multiple national conferences, and has spoken internationally. When not caught up in the world of academia, Shekinah is an author, youth pastor, empowerment conference host, and entrepreneur, and these are the things she is most proud of. Shekinah strongly believes that there is power within each and every one of us to do “exceedingly and abundantly above all that we can imagine.” And since she believes it, she lives by it and wants others to do the same. Her deepest desire in life is to see people live out their purpose. Her goal is to make creators out of the visionaries, by helping visionaries make their vision into a creation beyond their own imagination.
